This past Saturday The Anti-Cruelty Society took part in our largest adoption event of the year: Clear the Shelters! This nationwide adopt-a-thon encouraged people in the community to come together and find homes for as many animals as possible on Saturday, August 15th. And boy did we do just that!

68 animals from The Anti-Cruelty Society found their forever homes this past Saturday! That’s almost seventy pets who got to spend the weekend with their new families! Nearly 1,000 animals from the participating Chicago and Northwest Indiana shelters and over 12,000 animals nation-wide found their new families!

Thank you to everyone who made this day a huge success – especially our foster team – who helped us rehabilitate needy animals and fill the shelter with happy healthy pets. Thank you for all your hard work!

Adopted! Rover

For those of you that have not had a chance to meet our little charmer, meet Rover. He was quite the draw at the Foster Open House because of his adorable physic with personality to match. His foster mom has also written us a wonderful personality profile to give us a better look into what he is like in a home environment. 🙂

Rover da Tover photo

“Rover is a playful, loving pup that is equally happy playing a game of fetch, or playing with one of his chew toys on his own. Although Rover is not potty trained, he is crate trained up to 5-6 hours. Rover loves meeting new people and does quite well not jumping up. He happily plays with dogs his own size or a bit smaller and likes larger dogs that have a slower pace. He tends to look for comfort from his human when larger more rambunctious dogs come running to play. Rover is quick to learn and is working on off, wait (for toys and food), sit, paw, come and down. Rover has lived with an older cat and, although occasionally tries to play with the cat like a puppy, is more just curious. He has taken a swipe to the nose from the cat and has not retaliated. Rover would make a great addition to a family. He likes children that are respectful of his space and approach slowly. Once introduced he is happy to play with anyone, but, as with all puppies, occasionally misses the toy and catches a hand so older children would be best.”

If you would like to know more about Rover, please direct your questions to foster@anticruelty.org.

Summer is cat season!  What better way to honor our long-term furry friends than by giving them the home they deserve?  Catapalooza is a fantastic opportunity to adopt one or two of our Society’s “HEADLINERS.” These cats have  been with us for an extended period of time and yearn to bring joy and love to the lives of caring individuals or families.  Our headliners are so special that we have waived the adoption fee to take these felines home during the ACS Catapalooza CATpaign.  Come by before August 5th and check out FurBall, Mitzie, Serendipity, Sizzle, and Max.  This cat crew is sure to tug at your heartstrings!
